Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain condition that causes intense pain in the hands, arms, legs, or feet. It may occur after an injury to tissue or nerves in the affected area. Symptoms include:

  • Dramatic changes in skin temperature, color, or texture
  • Intense burning pain
  • Extreme skin sensitivity
  • Swelling and stiffness in affected joints
  • Decreased ability to move the affected body part

The cause of CRPS is currently unknown. It is diagnosed by your doctor based on its signs and symptoms. There is currently no cure for CRPS, and treatment focuses on relieving the pain.
